To ensure you are travelling on a valid ticket, you must tap on with your Opal card or Opal single trip ticket at the start of your trip and tap off at the end. If you do not, you may be fined or charged a higher fare.

Tickets and fares differ on Manly Fast Ferry and other private ferry services. Opal cards and Opal single trip tickets are not accepted. Contact the ferry operator for ticket options.

Opal card

Opal card ferry fares are based on two distance-based fare bands and are calculated from where you tap on to where you tap off. The correct fare is automatically deducted from your card.

You can use the trip planner to calculate your approximate Opal card fare.

Opal single trip tickets

Opal single trip ticket fares for Sydney Ferries are based on two distance-based fare bands  and available in Adult and Child/Youth.

Adult tickets are for all customers aged 16 years and older, with the exception of Senior Secondary Student Concession Card holders.

Child/Youth tickets are for children aged 4–15 years inclusive and eligible full time NSW/ACT school students aged 16 years or older with a Senior Secondary Student Concession Card. Students must carry the correct proof of entitlement.

Tickets can be purchased from Opal top up or single trip ticket machines at selected wharves. They are valid from time of purchase until 4am the next day for travel between two wharves on the Sydney Ferries Network.

You cannot break your journey with an Opal single trip ticket. Once you leave the wharf and go through the exit or ticket gates, the ticket is no longer valid.

Opal single trip tickets must be tapped on and tapped off like an Opal card to be valid.
