Where to get Opal cards and tickets
It's easy to get an Adult or Child/Youth Opal card:
- at an Opal retailer
- at selected Transport Customer Service Centres and Shops
- at selected Service NSW locations
- by calling 13 67 25 (13 OPAL)

Adult and Child/Youth Opal single trip tickets are available from Opal top up and single trip ticket machines.

From 1 January 2016 the only paper tickets sold across the Opal network will be Adult and Concession single tickets for trains, buses, ferries and light rail; and return tickets for trains, ferries and light rail. Some paper tickets can be purchased in advance from ticket outlets, for example, for PrePay bus services. Ticket outlets include newsagencies, convenience stores, selected post offices, shops and kiosks.

Sydney and Intercity Trains accept Opal cards. If you don’t have an Opal card, you can purchase single and return Adult and Concession tickets at the station from the ticket office or ticket vending machines.
NSW TrainLink Regional trains and coach services are reserved seat services and Opal is not accepted. Visit NSW TrainLink to book and pay for Regional travel.See Train tickets and fares for more information.
Buses accept Opal card in Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Hunter, and the Illawarra.
Single Adult and Concession tickets can be purchased from the driver on the bus, excluding PrePay Only services, where you need an Opal card or a paper ticket to board. Sydney Ferries F1–F7 services and the Stockton ferry in Newcastle accept Opal card. Private ferries do not accept Opal card.
Sydney Ferries sells single and return Adult and Concession tickets from the ticket office or ticket vending machines at Circular Quay and Manly. Tickets may also be sold by the customer service officer on board the ferry.

Light rail accepts Opal card.
You can also purchase single and return tickets from the customer service officer on board.
Customer service officers accept cash only. There are no facilities for EFTPOS or credit card at light rail stops or on board.See Light rail tickets and fares for more information.
Concession paper tickets can be purchased from Transport Shops, train stations and ticket outlets. If travelling on a concession ticket, you must carry the appropriate concession card and ticket with you at all times and show it to Transport staff or police officers on request.
