Cycling is a convenient, healthy and environmentally-friendly transport option for getting to where you need to go. You can see NSW on two wheels or combine cycling with travel on public transport.

Sydney's Cycling Future presents a new direction in the way we plan, prioritise and provide for cycling in Sydney.

Planning your journey

Bike paths

Use the cycleway finder to see bicycle paths and road conditions in NSW to map out your cycle journey.

Bike parking

There's a growing number of bike sheds and lockers at train stations, ferry wharves and bus interchanges all over NSW to make it easier for you to combine cycling with your public transport journey.

Register on the bike sheds and lockers website to access your nearest bike sheds or bike locker.

Bikes on public transport

For planning your travel on NSW transport with your bike, including ticketing, see bikes and boards.

You cannot take a bike on a bus (unless it's a folding bike taken on as hand luggage). Check with bus operators for conditions of travel.

Road safety

Tips for safe riding can help cyclists better share the roads and avoid danger. Visit the Centre for Road Safety website.

Road rules and road user's handbook

You can download the handbook for bicycle riders for valuable tips on road safety, bike maintenance, road rules and the legal aspects of riding your bicycle.

You can watch how to use the bicycle network videos for commuting and recreation purposes. The videos cover shared paths, how traffic signals detectors work, negotiating with buses and more.
